When you "one-up" this street beast Viper, you get the 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR. Couple this with a "Hardcore" package available on this car, and you have a slick snake that not only looks the part, but put its money where its fangs are !

The 2009 Dodge Viper ACR has the same power and torque as the regular Viper with 600 horses and 560 pound-feet. The engine drives through a smaller dual plate clutch that reduces rotating inertia by 18 percent and the latest version of the Tremec T6060 six-speed that includes triple-cone synchros on first and second, and 10-percent-wider gears to manage the torque. The new GKN ViscoLok diff features its own sump to quicker generate the hydraulic pressure needed to actuate the limited-slip clutches faster, yet more progressively and with greater precision.

Most of the time, effort, and development dollars have been spent on business end of that makes the 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR go faster through the twisty bits-suspension, brakes, wheels and tires, and aerodynamics. Especially the aerodynamics. Here is a basic example of the functionality of the vehicle - At 150 mph, the regular Viper coupe generates 100 pounds of downforce. The same speed with the Viper ACR generates 1000 pounds of downforce.

That giant carbon-fiber rear wing is the most obvious reason why. But there's also a new carbon-fiber front splitter that extends way back under the car and incorporates seven steps to diffuse the airflow. The new hood louvers unveiled with the 600-horsepower engine upgrade a year ago play a part, too. According to the specialists at SRT every aspect of the car is used to aerodynamically balance the vehicle.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 202px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Zrb3d9VTyMM/SmH5-f978EI/AAAAAAAAABE/sbSXYLNsANc/s320/High+Performance+Cars+for+the+Street+2009viperACR.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359839883676086338" />

Suspension changes include race-style KW shocks all around that can be adjusted for stiffness and ride height, springs twice as stiff as those in a normal Viper, and a beefier front stabilizer bar. Forged "Sidewinder" alloy wheels save 30 pounds of unsprung weight, and new two-piece StopTech brake rotors save a further 30. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires-basically barely legal race rubber are standard equipment.

The "standard" Dodge Viper ACR is 40 lbs lighter than the regular Viper coupe. The optional "Hardcore" package saves an extra 40 lbs with the deletion of the audio system, underhood silencer pad, trunk carpet, and tire inflator. The radio is replaced by a lightweight cover that can be configured to mount the lap timer that comes with the package. All this adds up to some serious, all business, high performance, street terror. Hardcore indeed ! Come and get some !

Some of the statistics on this street animal are as follows :

General Body Style - Coupe
Assembly Plant - Conner Avenue (Detriot, MI)
EPA Vehicle Class - Two-seater
Engine Type and Description - 10-cylinder, 90-degree V-type, liquid-cooled
Displacement- 8.4 liter (510 cu. in.)
Bore x Stroke - 4.055 x 3.96 (103 x 100.6)
Valve System - OHV, Variable Valve Timing, 20 valves, roller-type hydraulic lifters
Fuel Injection - Sequential, multi-port, electronic
Construction - Aluminum alloy block with cast-iron liners, aluminum alloy heads
Compression Ratio - 10.2:1
Power (SAE net) - 600 bhp (450KW) @ 6100 rpm (71 bhp/L)
Torque (SAE net) - 560 lb.-ft. Hennessey Performance is a one stop shop with a 24,000 square foot facility with 20 bays, 15 lifts, a welding and metal fabrication shop and customer showroom. And what tuner car facility would be complete without their own quarter mile dragstrip and test track, and a chassis dynamometer!

Their staff compliments the package with a combined 100+ years of experience in designing and manufacturing high performance car upgrades.

Now for the good stuff. Hennessey Performance turns the biggest and fastest players in the high performance car game into fire-breathing, asphalt destroying automotive monsters! What make Hennessey Performance heads and shoulders above their competition is the diverse assortment of cars they modify. Unlike other tuners that specialize in only one make, Hennessey dominates the industry, tuning cars by Audi, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, Mercedes, Nissan, Porsche, Lamborghini and more!

What is so impressive is that Hennessey will typically tune a newer model car such as the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro long before many dealerships are even able to get one to sell to the general public !

The Hennessey Performance website rounds out their business by providing articles, pictures, job opportunities with the facility, a tuner school and videos of tuner cars for sale ! Their business offers performance packages that can be added to your newly purchased high performance car and can be assembled onsite at their facility. I would highly suggest checking them out via the internet at :

http://www.hennesseyperformance.com

For your viewing pleasure (and drool factor), I have included a few pictures of Hennessey Performance's tuner cars for sale currently on their site ! But with so many cars on the market, what truly makes a car - high performance ?

The concrete answer to this question is as diverse as the cars themselves. For true auto enthusiasts, a high performance car is one that exhibits the pinnacle of horsepower, handling, and beauty. A vehicle with this status may be seen as untouchable to most.

Yet another car junkie may feel the answer is in the eye of the beholder. Perhaps not every elite performing automobile costs in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The owner may envision the concept that his rather vanilla-looking Honda Civic has the potential to become a street terror with just a small amount of aftermarket parts.

Whatever your vision, the realm of the super car is up to you and how you choose to see it. In this blog we will be looking at the best of the best in the automobile market.

Stand-by for more as we review the animal we call the high performance car !

High Performance Cars For The Street - Privacy Policy

High Performance Cars For The Street - Privacy Policy

This website/blog uses third-party advertising companies to serve ads when visiting this site.
